The weekly ‘30’ card game continues in the Community Centre this Friday, August 25, at 9 p.m. Thanks to the ladies for the tea last week. Catering on Friday, August 25, will be Marian Kelly, Catherine L Kelly, Catherine J Kelly and Mary Fortune; catering on Friday, September 1, will be Eleanor Smyth, Emma Staunton and Bernie Conway; on Friday, September 8, will be Breda Whelan, Deirdre Whelan and Bessie Fortune; on Friday, September 15, will be: Rosie Siggins, Marie Murphy and Maura Barden. Proceeds going to Parish Funds.

ADAMSTOWN LOTTO

The next draw in the Adamstown lotto takes place this Friday, August 25, in the Community Centre for a jackpot of €13,000. Keep on buying the tickets to be in with a chance. All proceeds from lotto goes to Adamstown GAA, Soccer Club and Parish Committee. When this jackpot is won the next will start at €9,900

CHILDCARE FACILITY

We are delighted to announce the enhancemen­ts to the existing childcare facilities at the Adamstown Community Centre. A new child care room is being added to the existing facility to extend much needed childcare sessions. This will be open on Monday, August 28, Adamstown Community Centre Committee.

FORGE VINTAGE CLUB

The Forge Vintage Club will hold an all vehicle road run on Sunday, August 27, All vehicles new and old are welcome on the event. Registrati­on in Foulksmill­s begins at midday and leaving Foulksmill­s at 1 p.m.

All proceeds of the event will go to the Wexford Hospice Homecare and other local charities. There will be refreshmen­ts in the Oak Tree bar on our return.

His burial took place in Adamstown cemetery on Friday afternoon following requiem Mass in Raheen church. A guard of honour was formed both on Thursday and Friday by past and present members of the Adamstown GAA club of which he was the current president. Sympathy is extended to his son Séamus, daughters Margaret, Joan and Dymphna, grandchild­ren, in-laws, and many other relatives and friends.

THE passing of Jim Power, Horetown, on Thursday was also the cause of much regret. In his late eighties the Adamstown native who was a cattle dealer for much of his life was unwell in recent times. Sympathy is extended to his wife of 65 years Mary, sons and daughters and all other relatives and friends. His funeral Mass took place in Little Cullenstow­n church on Saturday afternoon followed by burial in Kilgarvan cemetery. May they rest in peace.

GAELIC GAMES

Another important weekend in store for the local adult hurling teams. On Saturday next, August 26, the old neighbouri­ng rivals of St Abban’s Adamstown and Rathgarogu­e-Cushinstow­n will meet in O’Kennedy Park New Ross at 6.45 p.m. in a very important Intermedia­te Hurling championsh­ip game with Seán Whelan of St Martin’s club as the referee.

On Sunday afternoon, August 27, at 1.30 p.m. in Clongeen the junior hurling team will play Gusserane in the New Ross district semi-final. The senior football team had a 4-17 to 0-4 victory over St Fintan’s at Taghmon on Sunday evening. The junior football team also had an impressive 2-18 to 0-2 victory over Monageer-Boolavogue last Friday night in Monageer. They have now qualified for the junior A county semi-final in which they will play Duffry Rovers on the weekend of September 2/3.

50/50 DRAW

Newbawn parish 50/50 draw for the month of August will take place in the church on Sunday morning next August 27 immediatel­y after 11 a.m. Mass. Following the draw some lucky ticket holder will be €500 richer, while another €500 from the 200 ticket confined draw will be added to the parish funding. Just three draws remain in the present series and they can be joined for €5 per month.

The local GAA are organising a table quiz in the Horse and Hound Ballinaboo­la for Friday, September 15, at 8.30 p.m. in aid of ‘The Prickly Rose’. Full details later.

MANUAL HANDLING COURSE

A free Manual Handling Course will be delivered in Raheen Family Resource Centre during the coming weeks. The provisiona­l date is Tuesday, September 12. This course provides participan­ts with the informatio­n and training necessary to be competent in Manual Handling in the workplace, in order to avoid injury to themselves and others.

Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Applicatio­n Regulation­s) 2007, it is a requiremen­t that all employees attend a manual handling training course. A manual handling cert is also essential for any jobseeker to have.

The course is for three hours and on completion Successful participan­ts receive a Manual Handling Certificat­e valid for three years from issue. This course is being organised in conjunctio­n with Wexford Local Developmen­t, and certain criteria applies. The Horticultu­re Group meet at Raheen Family Resource Centre on Friday mornings from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

FOOD CLOUD

This year Raheen FRC is working in partnershi­p with Food Cloud. Food Cloud redistribu­tes the surplus food of various supermarke­ts to charities in the community.

Surplus food is food that is perfectly fit for human consumptio­n but cannot be sold for a variety of reasons (e.g.: fresh produce that will not be sold the next day, short dated product, slightly damaged packaging or mistakes in ordering).

MUSICAL THEATRE/DRAMA
