Orchestra auditions at County Wexford School of Music

AUDITIONS for the Co Wexford Youth Orchestra and the CWSM Dynamix Orchestra will take place on August 31.

Both orchestras are based at the County Wexford School of Music in Summerhill.

The award winning Co. Wexford Youth Orchestra, under the baton of Emily Redmond, as well as its feeder orchestra, CWSM ‘Dynamix’ Orchestra, which is conducted by Emer Collins. Both orchestras meet on a weekly basis throughout the year for rehearsals. The auditions for new members for the Co. Wexford Youth Orchestra and the ‘Dynamix’ Orchestra are on Thursday August 31 from 3.45 p.m. at the school in Summerhill.

Principal David Creevy, said the school will be offering a jam packed schedule as it enters its 38th academic year.

There has been an increase in the number of students taking singing classes and Co. Wexford School of Music has a thriving singing and vocal programme led by Aileen Donohoe, Trish Goggins and Ruth Gallagher.

The CWSM Glee Club were winners of the 2016 Kilcoole Feis in its category and along with the singing clubs meets weekly and has a number of performanc­e opportunit­ies during the year as well. Students have the opportunit­y to take exams in musical theatre as well as classical singing.

In addition to a wide range of individual instrument tuition there is also the opportunit­y to learn all about jazz, and Kevin Lawlor, director of the Jazz Programme is keen to promote the ‘Introducti­on to Jazz Course’ which prepares students for the degree in Jazz Studies at Newpark Jazz School in Dublin, and from there can progress to Berklee College New York.
