SINGING AND DANCING IN THE NEW ROSS RAIN

- BY DAVID LOOBY

YOUNG filmmakers followed New Ross dancers through the streets of the town last week producing a short film which will be screened later in the year.

The filmmakers collaborated with local teenage dancers, guided by Becci Whelan of 2 Many Dance Moves, to make the short film.

The film includes many New Ross landmarks, including the new Library Park.

The project is being facilitated by Ms Whelan and filmmaker Therese Dalton.

Ms Dalton said: ‘Becci and I are delighted to be facilitating this workshop. It is an exciting and fun project and we look forward to screening the final film later in the autumn.’

She praised the workshop participants for their enthusiasm, adding that creative collaborations are important across all art forms.

‘Community cohesion is so valuable, especially in a small community. It’s great to be working on such a fun and inspiring project, even if we did get soaked,’ Ms Whelan said.

The workshop was free for teenagers to participate in and is a Creative Ireland initiative, supported by the Arts department of Wexford County Council.

Meanwhile County Wexford Youth Film Project is hosting a series of filmmaking workshops which are open and free to all teenagers, starting with a workshop on how to create a music video. This four-day workshop starts on Saturday, September 16 and runs for four Saturdays (September 23rd, October 14th and 21st from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.)

Participants will learn how to film a music video using professional camera equipment and how to edit to the sound of the beat. Particular attention will be drawn to colour, light and shapes in our daily lives. This workshop will be facilitated by Ms Dalton and is funded by St. Michael’s Theatre and The Arts department of Wexford County Council. Places are limited and anyone interested in taking part in this or other workshops can book in advance by emailing wexfordyouthfilm@gmail.com or calling St. Michael’s Theatre on 051 421255.
