Hard working Molly Myers loved the country, farm life

-

MOLLY MYERS, who passed away peacefully on August 24th in the love and care of her family and the wonderful staff of New Ross Community Hospital, adored the country life and its quiet, familiar rhythms.

Molly was born into a busy farmhouse to Patrick and Catherine Myers in Gusserane,

She had three brothers, Patrick, Billy and Seán and three sisters, Kitty, Peggy and Breda.

She attended Gusserane NS before going on to work on the family farm, rearing turkeys, penny hens, sheep, pigs and cattle. She helped raise her younger siblings, the late Seán and Breda and was a constant presence around the farm.

When her mother died aged 67 Molly took on extra duties to keep everything running smoothly. Her love of animals was unparalleled, so much so that it wasn’t an unusual sight to see piglets and lambs in the house being fed by her at night as this is where she kept them.

Molly loved the outdoor life and enjoyed shopping and going out for a meal. She enjoyed singing and dancing and a glass of whiskey and was a vivacious, energetic woman.

Molly also enjoyed tending to the garden, reading the newspaper and loved watching television, especially her soaps.

Throughout her life animals were a constant source of joy and company for Molly, and whenever they got to the stage that they had to be sold, tears were shed.

Molly was a woman of great faith who recited the rosary daily and regularly attended Mass.

Sadly her health started to fail her over a decade ago. Her sister Breda cared for her, along with family members and a decade ago she went into New Ross Community Hospital where she received excellent care and made many new friends.

She was visited regularly by Breda and Billy and her family and was very close to her nephews and nieces living nearby.

Molly died aged 78 on August 24. A crowd attended her funeral Mass at the Church of St John the Baptist, Gusserane and her burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Molly is survived by her siblings Billy and Breda and is sadly missed by her loving family. She was predeceased by her siblings: Seán, Paddy, Peggy and Kitty,

May her gentle soul rest in peace.
