Coiste na nÓg championsh­ips gather momentum

THE People Newspapers Coiste na nÓg Championsh­ip picked up the pace this week with a bundle of knockout games and a smattering of finalists being decided around the county and through the grades.

In the Enniscorth­y Guardian Under-16 Premier Hurling championsh­ip Rapparees, featured in this section, will meet Naomh Eanna in the final after the Gorey boys overcame a gallant St Martin’s in the second semi-final on Friday evening.

Meanwhile, in the shield final Shelmalier­s, who beat Liam Mellow, will play Rathgarogu­e-Cushinstow­n, conquerors of Craanford.

The quarter-finals were played in Roinn 1 and they threw up some interestin­g results.

A previously flying Slaney Gaels were stunned by a Cloughbawn side who will now face Blackwater for a place in the title decider.

In the other semi Rathnure will meet HWH-Bunclody after they dispatched the Group B table-topper - Glynn-Barntown.

Roinn 1 Shield favourites Oulart-The Ballagh will meet Gusserane while Ballynastr­agh face Our Lady’s Island/St Fintan’s in the final four. St Patrick’s will play Ballygarre­tt in the Roinn 2 semi-finals and St James’ will face Kilross Gaels.

In the Roinn 2 Shield Hollow Rovers advanced to the final four where they join Adamstown, Bannow-Ballymitty and Davidstown.

St Martin’s beat Faythe Harriers twice in a week to book a semi-final spot in the Wexford People Premier Minor Hurling Championsh­ip semi-finals opposite Naomh Eanna.

In the other semi-final, table-toppers Shelmalier­s will meet a Ferns side who had an impressive victory over Oylegate-Glenbrien in the quarters.

Local bragging rights will be at stake when Rathnure meet Cloughbawn in the Roinn 1 semi-finals after both came through tricky last eight ties. On the other side of the draw Blackwater advanced and will face Gusserane in last four.

In the Shield semi’s, Hollow Rovers will face Dunbrody Gaels while Oulart-The Ballagh will meet HWH-Bunclody.

Askamore have been dominant all season in Roinn 2 and that continued into the semi-finals when they dispatched Ballygarre­tt last week.

Their reward is a final meeting with a Davidstown-Courtnacud­dy side that edged out Crossabeg-Ballymurn.

Ballyhogue will meet Moguegeen Gaels in the Roinn 2 shield final after both advanced without playing.

Blackwater will face the winners of St Martin’s and Oulart-The Ballagh in the New Ross Standard Under-14 Division 1 Hurling Shield final after they beat Rathnure.

In Roinn 2 Glynn-Barntown came out on top of a classic encounter with Shelmalier­s, just three points separated the sides after a eleven-goal thriller. In the final they will face Fethard.

Teams that excelled in Feile also look good in Division 3.

Oylegate-Glenbrien beat Ferns in the last four and will meet a talented Horeswood outfit in the decider.

In the shield, Cushinstow­n beat Ballyhogue and will now face Ballynastr­agh Gaels in the final.

Duffry Rovers edged past Adamstown in the Division 4 semi-final and will now match-up against Monageer-Boolavgoue for the cup.

In Division 5, St James’ will face-off against Kilmore, gallant winners against St Mary’s, Rosslare. Taghmon-Camross and Cloughbawn will play each other for the Division 5 shield.
