Cat’s second novel is a dark and twisting tale
FANS of the Wexford author Cat Hogan are looking forward to the publication by Poolbeg Press of her second novel ‘ There Was a Crooked Man’, a dark and twisting tale of revenge and redemption.
The novel is a sequel to the Irish Times bestseller and award-nominated debut novel, ‘ They All Fall Down’ and will be launched by the RTE broadcaster Rick O’Shea in Easons bookshop on Stephen’s Green, Dublin on September 13 and by the bestselling children’s author Eoin Colfer in Wexford library on September 14. All are welcome to attend the events.
‘ There Was A Crooked Man’ has already received praise from the Irish actor and international film star Aiden Gillen who said: ‘Hogan writes vividly and unflinchingly. Scott Carluccio Randall is an anti-hero to reckon with.’

Like her debut, ‘ There Was A Crooked Man’ is set in a Wexford fishing village but this time, Cat’s imagination has also taken her further afield to Marrakech and Berlin.
‘When I came to the end of writing the first book, I knew the leading villain Scott wasn’t done with either the characters or Ireland. Marrakech was the perfect place for him to hide out for a while. He’s been up to no good but he likes to win and he’s planning his revenge,’ said the author.
While writing the book, Cat had a series of chance encounters with Aidan Gillen. ‘In the spirit of dreaming big, I had the cast list written for the movie adaptation before the first book was complete. Aidan Gillen was the perfect candidate to play Scott. It was his voice I heard in my head as I wrote the character, so for Aidan to be so captivated by the bad guy and to give me a cover quote was just magic,’ she said.
Life has been a whirlwind for Cat since the launch of her debut novel a year ago. ‘ They All Fall Down’ was in the Irish Times bestseller list a few weeks after publication and went on to become an Amazon Uk and an Amazon US bestseller. The paperback edition was released in May of this year.
Cat lives in Wexford with her two sons. Her father Pat, a lightship man, instilled in her a love of the sea and the stars. Her mother, Mag, taught her to read before she could walk. She has been a fulltime writer for the last two years and has facilitated workshops and spoken at festivals including Write by the Sea, Kinsale Literary Festival-Words by Water, Waterford Writers Weekend, and Bray Literary Festival.
