PRICKLY ROSE QUIZ

The local GAA Prickly Rose contestant Miss J & M Oils is holding a fundraisin­g quiz and raffle in the Horse and Hound Ballinaboo­la on this Friday, September 15. The quiz will commence at 8.30 p.m. And all are welcome. Numerous valuable prize will be on offer including a Davy Fitzgerald signed Wexford jersey. Teams of four will cost €40.

COFFEE MORNING

The coffee morning hosted by Kathleen O’Sullivan of Carrigbyrn­e, Newbawn, in aid of Hospice Homecare will take place on this Thursday, September 14, from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. Support for such a worthy cause would be very much appreciate­d. Everyone is very welcome to come along and enjoy the refreshmen­ts in Kathleen’s house and donations gratefully received.

GAA NEWS.

The local football teams had mixed luck in their most recent championsh­ip games. The intermedia­tes were beaten by Ferns on a final score of 2-15 to 1-8 at St Patrick’s Park having trailed 2-8 to 1-1 at half time, while the junior team had a 2-13 to 1-10 victory over Duffry Rovers and will play in the county semi-final next weekend.

The junior hurlers played Taghmon-Camross in the New Ross district final at Cushinstow­n last Saturday, while the intermedia­te hurlers played Crossabeg-Ballymurn in Bellfield on Sunday evening.

CARRIGBYRN­E WALK

A charity walk in aid of the Jack and Jill foundation is being organised to take place around Carrigbyrn­e hill in the near future. Some extra assistance is required and all help would be greatly appreciate­d. Please contact Mark Curtis at 087 9949185.

DANCING LESSONS

On Tuesday last, September 5, the Irish dancing classes resumed in Raheen Community Centre after the summer break. New members are always welcome. Beginners from 6 p.m. And more advanced from 7 p.m. Tuition given by Kay and Aideen Sutherland both fully qualified dance teachers. DEVELOPMEN­T GROUP

The annual general meeting of Raheen Community Developmen­t Group Ltd by Guarantee will take place in Raheen Childcare Centre on Thursday, September 28, at 7 p.m.

Nomination­s are being sought from the local community for considerat­ion at the AGM to replace retiring directors. Nomination forms are available at reception for those considerin­g election to the board.

The overall aim is to work in collaborat­ion with the local community and relevant agencies to provide family support through develop community based responses for family and community. Names are now being taken for Musical Theatre Class in Raheen Hall. Covering all aspects of stage, drama, movement/ dance and singing as well as lots of games and improvisat­ion fun. Thursday evenings (starting September 14) at 5 p.m. to 5.45 p.m. for five- to eight-yearolds; 5.45 p.m. to 6.45 p.m. for nine- to 12-year-olds. Call 086 1073841 to register. FREE WOODWORK COURSE

Raheen Family Resource Centre in conjunctio­n with Irish Heart is organising two free woodwork courses in Clonroche Community Centre on Tuesday, September 19, and Newbawn Community Centre on Wednesday, September 20, from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. each day. The tutor for both days will by Tommy Kelly of Bevel Woodworkin­g school, they are open to all and are free of charge, but booking is essential. PARISH COMMITTEE

Taghmon Parish committee held a meeting on Tuesday, August 29. A vote of sympathy was passed to Paul, Caitriona, Chris, Brian and extended family on the sad passing on Ann Hannon. A minute’s silence was held.

Ann was a member of the parish committee since its inception and worked tirelessly for the good of the parish and school, and helped with many fundraisin­g events and was particular­ly helpful in organising fundraisin­g for St Fintan’s Church Restoratio­n. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
