Clongeen Parents, Babies and Toddlers Group meets every Wednesday morning during school terms between 9.30 a.m. And 11.30 a.m. The cost is only €4 per adult which includes refreshments for adults and children. This is a fun and relaxed group with loads of fun activities, crafts and singing, where both parents and children can meet new friends. As toddlers are growing up and moving on to the next step in their young lives, we have loads of room for new comers this September. We will be holding our AGM in Carroll’s/ Ann O’connor’s Pub in Clongeen this Thursday the 14th at 8 p.m. where everyone is welcome to join us.

We look forward to seeing new small and bigger faces this September. For any more informations, you can visit and like our Facebook page or you can call or text Véro at 086 1034878.

COISTE NA NÓG

First of all we’d like to wish the best of luck to all those who are receiving their junior cert results this week.

Hard luck to our under-14 hurlers who went down to a strong Monageer-Boulavogue side at the semi-final stage of the championship. With the format changed this year, we faced a previous Division 3 team for the second game running and unfortunately it proved a step too far against a side that only found themselves in Division 4 on the toss of a coin. Playing into a stiff breeze in the first half, we struggled to keep pace with our opponents, trailing 1-7 to 0-1 at the break. We battled to the end but never threatened to close the gap, eventually finishing on the wrong end of a 1-11 to 0-3 scoreline.

The team was: Dean Sinnott, Seán Whelan (C), Seán Whelan (G), Fionn Mullally, Eoin Power, Michael Dundon (0-2), Patrick Finn, Shane Culleton (0-1), Adam Whelan, Cathal Murphy, Michael Mulligan, Luke Murphy, Cormac Kiely, Ryan O’Grady, Jack Rossiter, Bryan Hopkins, John Whelan, Thomás Coleman, Jack Roche, Eoghan Twomey, Darragh Donnelly, Paul Murphy, Keith Kelly and Eamonn Bennett.

Well done to our under-14 footballers who had a comprehensive 7-11 to 3-1 win over Rathgarogue-Cushinstown in the Division 2 Shield semi-final. Playing with the aid of a strong breeze in the first half, early goals from Shane Culleton, Dean Sinnott and John Whelan set us up for a victory that was never really in doubt. The second half was a disjointed affair with both sides making a lot of changes, but we can look forward to the final with optimism knowing that if we perform to our ability we can bring home some silverware.

The team was: Bryan Hopkins, Cathal Murphy, Seán Whelan (G), Seán Whelan (C), Eoin Power, Michael Mulligan, Patrick Finn, Michael Dundon (0-1), Adam Whelan, Fionn Mullally (0-1), Shane Ryan (2-1), Cormac Kiely (2-1), John Whelan (1-1), Shane Culleton (1-2), Dean Sinnott (13), Jack Rossiter (0-1), Ryan O’Grady, Liam Burke, Eoghan Twomey, Luke Murphy, Jack Roche, Jack Boyd, Paul Murphy and Keith Kelly. Best of luck to these lads in the shield final.

Hard luck to our under-16 footballers together with Fethard, who were beaten on Monday evening in the Division 1 Shield quarter-final in Blackwater. The home side winning by a goal where the result was Blackwater 6-5 to Moguegeen Gaels 5-5. We would like to thank everyone involved with this great bunch of lads this year.

Finally, the Moguegeen Gaels (Clongeen-Fethard) minor footballers received a walkover in the shield semi-final from Kilross Gaels last Wednesday night. We now face neighbours Aughermon Gaels (Taghmon/Ballymitty) in the shield football final. We also have a shield hurling final against Ballyhogue to look forward too. Fixtures for both of these games are yet to be confirmed. Best of luck to the lads in both codes.

FITTEST FAMILY

Clongeen GAA will run the Fittest Family on Saturday, September 23, at 1 p.m. in the GAA park. Barbecue, tea, fun and games for children.

DEEPEST SYMPATHY

Our thoughts are with Mary Bennett and family from Rospile this past week on the passing of Paddy, who passed away last Wednesday the sixth after his illness in the past six months or so.

Paddy, who played for the local GAA club for many years in the 70’s and 80’s was a true gentleman, although when he took to the field his gentleness was short lived but his fairness was never questioned. His funeral Mass took place last Friday in Clongeen after midday Mass.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Mary, daughters Fiona, Louise and Niamh and sons Declan and Chris. He will also be missed by his brother Willie and sister Joan along with his grand-children, other relatives and his many friends. Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

OVER-35S SOCCER

After the holiday season has finally ended we got back to more normal numbers on Saturday the second with a proper seven-a-side game taking place in Horetown, with two young lads going in goal making it a full on game enjoyed by all. The game took place slightly earlier due to the International game, but the weeks ahead we’re back to the norm.

So if you’re interested in getting involved in the weekly over35s kick-about, you’d be more than welcome to come along at our usual time of 4.20 p.m. for the 4.30 p.m. or so kick-off where the cost is only €2 per player in Horetown every Saturday afternoon. Please don’t hesitate to give Dave a call at 086 8596627 if you need any further information.
