Frustration over delay at High Hill ‘eyesore’ park

-

THE snails pace of progress on clearing the High Hill in New Ross and creating a fine public space there was raised by Cllr John Fleming.

Cllr Fleming has been contacted by residents of the High Hill area of New Ross who has questioned why it is taking so long for the works at the old Royal Hotel site to be carried out.

District Manager Sinead Casey said a tender brief is being prepared to engage landscape acrhitects and designers to produce a detailed design for the High Hill and area leading to St Mary’s Church.

District Director Eamonn Hore said the council executive is not happy about the progress either.

‘It’s still a private site; we are doing our best.’

Ms Casey said: ‘We did have a meeting with the parties involved and assurances were given. I agree that it’s an eyesore and we have to get the whole thing moving to progress the site.’ VIRGIN Broadband workers have thanked New Ross businesspeople and residents for their cooperation as they install cables across the town.

District Manager Sinead Casey said the company has been pleasantly surprised by the welcome and response they have had as they carry out extensive works in the town and in Rosbercon.

Ms Casey said: ‘Virgin Broadband is 75 per cent complete with the upgrade to high speed broadband hardware throughout the town. The interconnector between New Ross and Waterford is substantially complete. The company expects to offer services by November. As part of their public contribution, free wifi access will be available in designated public areas by the year’s end.’

Ms Casey said another broadband company has offered free wifi in the town.

Cllr Michael Sheehan asked if one of the companies could extend the free wifi to villages across the district, saying the technology is available for them to do so.

He said the council should write to Minister Denis Naughten about getting New Ross included in the SIRO Broadband roll out. ‘It is of crucial importance to this area. It’s in every district around us and we are being purposely excluded.’

Ms Casey said she has spoken to the companies about the possibility of rolling the broadband out to villages.
