Davidstown’s double joy

-

D’TOWN-C’CUDDY FETHARD 2-7 0-5

DAVIDSTOWN-COURTNACUDDY completed a memorable week by powering to the Under-14 camogie Roinn 2B championship title in Killurin recently.

The girls from Boolabawn only picked up the football crown three days earlier but showed no ill-effects of that encounter as they ground down a spirited Fethard side in a fantastic all-round team performance.

They were made to work incredibly hard for their victory in the first-half. Tara Cooper was a big reason why Davidstown-Courtnacuddy eventually took the title, as the talented goalie made a string of excellent saves to keep Fethard at bay.

In the opening half the seasiders were driven on by Amy Molloy and Aoife Cullen. They created plenty of chances but came up against a gritty defence and inspired goalkeeper in tip-top form.

In fact, both defences were really on top in the opening half with just two Cullen points matched at the other end by the deadly accurate Lauren Delaney. Fethard had worked tirelessly against the breeze in the first-half but it was tough to keep that level going (0-2 each).

Davidstown-Courtnacuddy started to turn the screw as Delaney’s third point was soon followed by a Lucy Kehoe score after an excellent pass by Donna Delahunty.

With the Enniscorthy District side putting together some classy passages of play, the pressure was on Fethard.

It soon told when Lucy Egan’s strike from distance found the net with the aid of a deflection. Davidstown-Courtnacuddy were attacking in waves now and, after she picked off her fourth point, Lauren Delaney found the net to further increase the advantage (2-5 to 0-3).

Anna Jevens found Donna Delahunty and she pointed as the game moved into the closing stages. Cullen hit back with scores for Fethard but Delahunty picked off her second point before the end after great work in the build-up by Lucy Kehoe.

The Foley-Saunders, Aoibhin and Erin, plus defenders Cora Hackett and Laura Walsh all performed well for Fethard under severe pressure in the second-half but there was just no stopping a classy, strong Davidstown-Courtnacuddy side as they took another hard-earned county title.
