Snoopy keeps up strong run

Two from two in semi-final

-

THERE WAS some very good action at Enniscorthy Dog Track last week, and there is plenty more to come this week.

On Monday night the semi-finals of the Paradise Madison Unraced Stake, were run and the Gordon Murray-owned Ketch Up Snoopy maintained his unbeaten run to make it two from two when snugly holding the finishing run of Piercestown Iron in a good 29.19.

The other semi saw the John Atkinson-owned Leahs Fancy go to the front at the second bend and surge away for an easy win in 29.25. This week’s final promises to be a close-run thing.

The Glenbrien Kennels A5/6 Stake, sponsored by Kathleen Stamp, also got under way with all four heats run.

The fastest run was saved until the last heat when Gentstown Titch, owned by Joseph Walsh, came up well from trap six to lead and run out a good 29.15 winner.

It seems the track runs a lot faster on Thursday nights and there was fast times recorded.

The Horse and Hound Tri Distance first round got under way, and the Ned Freeman-owned Stripe Mary returned to her best form when taking heat two. Getting away fast, she went on to win by a wide margin in a best of round 28.78, and she will be tough nut to crack on this form.

Race eight saw a very good run from the Daniel Whelan-owned Lochdara Jet who recorded a flying 32.51 in this 600 yards race, beating a good yardstick in Kiltrea Brian by three lengths.

This Saturday night the final of the Derby will be shown live on RTE and there will be a Wexford interest as the runner in trap one, Hay Bound, was bred by Daniel Frayne of Forth Mountain and is trained by Kilkenny man Peter Cronin for English owner Richard Brown.

If he were to win it would be the icing on the cake as his litter brother and sister have won open unraced stakes for the Frayne family already this year .
