Rangers mean business PREMIER DIVISION

-

GOREY Rangers fired an early title warning shot at champions North End United, by overcoming the Sky Blues 2-0 at Ramstown on Sunday, inflicting the first domestic defeat on the Wexford town side for 18 months.

The visitors began the game brightly, with Paul ‘Spot’ Murphy and Kyle Dempsey spurning decent opportunities, but Rangers broke the deadlock ten minutes before the break through Ryan Cullen.

The north county men weren’t willing to rest on their laurels, and David ‘Swack’ Behan grabbed their second to seal an impressive victory.

Shamrock Rovers are determined to win back the Premier Division crown and they have started the season in pleasing fashion with three convincing wins.

On Sunday they raced into a 4-0 lead against Tombrack, and although James Coleman and Eoin Murphy pulled goals back for the Premier Division newcomers, they eventually rounded off a 5-2 win.

Eamonn O’Brien was in good form for the Enniscorthy side as he helped himself to a hat-trick, with Ian Sinnott and Dan Carroll also on target.

Moyne Rangers had to be content with a point as they drew 0-0 with in-form Bunclody, while Courtown Hibs made it two wins from two, overcoming Gorey Celtic 2-1 in a north county derby with goals from Colum Kinsella and Glen Hughes, with Paul Brennan replying

Last season’s Division 1 champions got their first point on the board in this year’s top flight as they earned a 0-0 draw away to New Ross Celtic.
