CORACH RAMBLERS FC

A-team were at home to Bunclody yesterday and went down to a 1-0 defeat despite being on top for most of the game, we started well and on six minutes we won our first corner which was cleared, we were dealing comfortably with anything Bunclody were throwing at us and on 18 minutes we went close when Hermi shot just wide.

On 35 minutes bunclody posed their first threat when they won a free on the edge of the box which they sent over the bar so 0-0 at half time, we came out in the second half and stepped up our intensity but couldn’t get the breakthrough coming closest on 81 minutes when Richie found Daz, whose shot was excellently saved by the Bunclody keeper.

Three minutes later we went close again following a good 5-man move but Gareth’s shot went just wide, two minutes later we conceded following a rare bunclody attack, we pushed hard for an equaliser in the last few minutes but the closest we came was in the last minute of injury time when Gareth’s shot went just wide, it was hard to take after being on top for most of the game but that’s football.

The men’s B team were in action yesterday, and maintained their winning start to the season by beating Carne in Danescastle. Goals from the evergreen Spicky Diskin and Philly Murphy helped secure our second win on the bounce by a 2-1 scoreline.

Corach were on top throughout but a host of missed opportunities from the home side kept the game on a knife edge right upto the final whistle.

Overall a good performance with standout performances right through the team from the likes of Millhouse Mazy, Philly and Spicky. Keep it going now boys.

Congratulations to this week’s split-the-pot winner Fiona Rowe, Connagh, Fethard-on-Sea. Fiona picks up a brilliant €712. Thanks a million to everyone for your continued support.

FETHARD ST MOGUE’S

The intermediate hurlers played Our Lady’s Island in the county quarter-final in Killurin last weekend. In a tough encounter OLI took the lead when their free taker caught the Fethard defence napping and goaled from a close in free. They had built up a five point lead before some quick thinking from Mark Wallace, who found Mikie Dwyer with a free and Mikie finished to the net to leave two points between the sides at the break.

OLI extended the lead to four with two quick points but Fethard had drawn level by the seventeenth minute. Two more quick points from OLI pushed them clear again but Fethard were well on top at this stage and eventually took the lead with seven minutes to go. The did have a late scare when Seán Foley was called on to make a good save. Fethard held on to win on a 1-14 to 1-12 scoreline and progress to the county semi-final in which they will play Oulart on Saturday the 23rd at 1.30 in Hollymount.

COISTE NA NÓG

The under-14 footballers made it a double when they joined the hurlers and qualified for the Division 2 county final with a hard earned victory over Horeswood in Taghmon last weekend on a scoreline of 3-9 to 2-7.
