Looking after your health in your senior years

- WITH CLAIR WHITTY

LOOKING after your health in your senior years is really no different to any other stage of your life. A healthy diet, lifestyle, social life, and your attitude to age will all add to how you cope in your senior years.

Don’t put all your symptoms down to old age. Some of your symptoms are age related. For example, you may not get as much sleep as you used to. You might find it difficult to get off to sleep, or you else wake frequently. This can be frustrating. Natural remedies may help you get to sleep.

As you age, the amount of digestive enzymes that your body produces decreases, which contributes to symptoms such as bloating, wind, flatulence, or constipation. A glass of Apple Cider Vinegar in warm water in the morning can stimulate digestion. A tablespoon of flax seeds over your cereal can help relieve constipation. A good probiotic supplement can also help.

Many of you are worried about your memory. You forget people’s names, even family members. You forget where you put things. It’s frustrating. But is it because you are not concentrating? It could be that simple.

Many older people are deficient in B12 and one of the main symptoms of deficiency is sluggish memory. Your doctor can check this for you. Revive Active Mastermind is a great supplement to consider if you want to support memory, retention of information, mental performance, and cognitive function. Take a sachet 4 - 5 days a week for a few months on and off to see if you notice a difference.

You may get aches, pains and stiffness. Keep your joints oiled and supple with healthy oils from oily fish, nuts, and seeds. Supplements like Revive Active Joint Complex contain 5000mg of collagen, 1000mg glucosamine, and 100mg hyaluronic acid a combination which can help relieve pain and stiffness.

Many people have restless legs, or cramps. This can be a deficiency of magnesium. The solution can be simple: eat more green vegetables. Or, you can get magnesium supplements.

Lack of energy, feeling fatigued, dry itchy skin, dry mouth, headaches and brain fog can all be associated with lack of water. Make sure to drink enough water.

Always check with your doctor if you’re on medication before taking supplements.
