WEXFORD FC BACK ‘ASK’ CAMPAIGN

-

wexford FC is adding the ASK logo to its kit is a tangible sign of support for Cllr Frank Staples’ campaign to promote positive mental health.

With a theme of ‘one conversation can save a life,’ ASK was formed in reponse to the large numbers of deaths by suicide in the Model County and urges people to talk about their problems rather than keep the hidden.

‘Like most campaigns we hope it will make a difference and no matter what difficulties you are going through whether they be depression, financial or otherwise there is always another way,’ said Cllr Jim Staples, who spearheaded the scheme.

Currently the women players of the Wexford Youths club have the logo on their kit, but chairman of the Wexford FC Supporters Club James Brady said it was being rolled out across the board to both men’s and women’s teams.

‘We want to have it out there for people to be aware of ASK,’ James told this newspaper. ‘My own wife is bipolar so I well know the kind of problems that people face, but are often afraid to ask,’ he said.

‘I spent a bit of time with Frank years ago, coaching kids, and when the opportunity came we decided to help in the campaign in any way we can.’

‘People might have the idea that footballers are happy all the time, but deep down there may be those that may need help and they need to know that it is available,’ he said.
