Sun shines on Young run

-

A Spanish student named Jesus won the Richie Young memorial walking event held at the Pink Rock recently.

Jesus was followed by James Murphy in second place and Kealan Connolly in third place.

The first runner home was Michael Power, followed by Sally Forristal in second place and Elaine O’Donovan in third place.

Runners and walkers of all ages gathered at the scenic Pink Rock area on a beautiful autumn morning for the event.

Just over €600 was raised on the day and the money will be divided between the Irish Cancer Society and the club.

Maggie O’Connor of St Joseph’s Athletics Club said the event was a great family day.

Ms O’Connor said: ‘ There were lots of families and the kids enjoyed the 5k walk and run in the sunshine at the Pink Rock while having a bird’s eye view of the construction of the New Ross Bypass Bridge.’

Eighty people competed in the walk and run and they enjoyed the refreshments afterwards provided by Trudy’s Catering Kitchen in the Parish Pump pub.

Ms O’Connor said: ‘St Joseph’s AC would like to thank everyone who supported the Richie Young Memorial race on the day.’

Richie, from Tullogher, passed away a number of years ago. He was an active member of the athletics club and completed seven Dublin City Marathons.
