CYCLE FOR HOMELESS
Many thanks to all who contributed so generously to the collection for the Peter McVerry Trust which Denis Kenny held recently at Wallaces SuperValu. The total raised is €2,423. GAA CLUB NOTES
Members of Bannow-Ballymitty GAA club are asked to attend an EGM on Friday, October 6, at 8.30 over in the complex. The purpose of this meeting is to address a particular important issue that will need addressing prior to our Agm in November. This is an important meeting necessary for our club going forward and therefore needs your input. Thank you for giving this your consideration.
The under-16 girls lost out to Davidstown in their football County Final, and what a game it was. Every girl gave 100% right up to the final whistle. Massive thanks to John and Jon Reville their mentors and to Mary, Elaine and Niall over the season. We can’t forget to mention the supporters at the girls games edging on their team.
Well done to Ciara Cummins on representing our club at half time on all-Ireland day. What an achievement and such an honour.
The junior ladies have secured themselves into a league final from their win over Blackwater on Sunday last.
The junior b Football squad had a 1-12 to nine point win over Fethard in their District Final under the lights in Gusserane on Friday. They are now in a county semi-final against Oylegate soon. Well done lads and your manager’s John O’Sullivan, David Currid and Jason Sinnott.
The under-14 boys’ football team won their Division 4 Shield Final on Tuesday night under the lights in Patticks Park. Well done to everyone involved. Pictures on the Facebook page.
The under-12 boys lost out to St Anne’s on Sunday in Wexford Park by a measly one point. Their dedication and comittment during the year has been exemplary.
Lotto numbers were 11, 16, 29 and 30. Only one match-three winner Alan Nolan Camross. Next jackpot 12,800.
Our annual race night will take place over the bank holiday in October.

CORACH NEWS
This week’s Corach Ramblers split-the-pot winner is Triona Cahill from Curraghmore winning €679. Well done, Triona. Thanks a million to everyone for your continued support.
A-team were away to Ross Celtic yesterday and came away with a 0-0 draw, we started well and had Ross on the back foot in the first 10 minutes but didn’t create any clear cut chance, on 10 minutes Ross forced a corner which was headed over, for the next 15 minutes both sides were cancelling each other out and just before the half hour we got a free 30 yards out after Niall picked up the ball in his own half and carried it forward before being hacked down by a Ross defender but it ended up being cleared, we stepped up the pace of the game after this and on 40 minutes Niall saw another free saved by the keeper, three minutes later mark had a shot saved by the keeper and in the following goalmouth scramble we saw two efforts cleared off the line so 0-0 at halftime.
Ross started the second half better and won a free in a dangerous position but it was saved by Darren, we got ourselves back into it and got our first chance of the second half on 56 when Gareth put Niall through but he shot wide, we were completely on top now and went close again on 63 when Adam sent in a great cross but Niall saw his header saved.
Five minutes later Aaron sent in a free and Gareth saw his header come back off the crossbar, on 78 a great cross from consie found Hermi but he saw his header excellently saved by the keeper, on 86 minutes we had our last chance but yet again a great save by the keeper kept Niall’s shot out, a good performance from the lads and with a bit of luck we could have had all three points.
The B team made the hour long journey to Courtown on Sunday to take on Hibs in their Division 4 clash. The game started off very tight with the home team having the lions share of the possession but creating very little in terms of shots on goal. The Corach boys, despite not having as much of the ball, created several good scoring chances in the opening half through the likes of Conor Neville, Spicky Diskin and Joe Sinnott, but unfortunately just couldn’t find the finish. At half time the tie was poised at 0-0.
Corach started much better in the second half when our midfield pairing of David White and Mark Hayes helped put the away team on the front foot and soon after the restart Spicky scored his fourth goal in three games to give Corach the lead.
Hibs seemed to be shook into life after conceding and gained back control of the tie with two goals in a matter of minutes after a period of sustained pressure in which Corach found it hard to get a foot on the ball. But all credit has to go to our lads who kept their heads and after a few changes, we got a foothold in the game and forced Courtown to conceded ground and Mark Hayes levelled the score with 10 minutes$3 remaining. Corach kept the pressure on and created a number of chances, the best of which fell again to Mark, whose strike looked as though it was about to nestle in the top corner but the Hibs keeper got a finger tip to it to push it onto the crossbar.
By this stage Corach were just about on top and Courtown were reduced to the odd breakaway and could have retaken the lead when the ball struck the Corach upright. But back came Corach and with just two minutes left on the clock Spicky rose to meet a Mark Hayes cross to snatch the victory.
A hard fought game where we were second best for long periods but the boys showed real grit and fighting spirit to take a massive three points and continue our strong start to the season. Well done, boys.
Under-12s won 3-1 at home v St Leonards. Solid performance, played some nice football, our pace on the wings was the big difference between the sides. Cian Rossiter got an excellent opening goal and Jack Cleary continued his strong goal scoring start to the season scoring two.
Our under-14 boys made the long trip to Ballygarrett this morning to take on Killenagh Wanderers in wk two of our season. Despite only the bare 11 players travelling the boys gave a great account of themselves but unfortunately went down 4-2 on the day. A goal from Ben Smith gave Corach the lead despite a slow start from the away team. The lead didn’t last long and by half time the home team had raced into a 3-1 lead.
Corach were much improved in the second half and dominated possession and territory throughout. The increase in intensity really showed and midway through the second half Shane Carroll was pulled down for a penalty but he was denied from the spot by a good save from the home team keeper. Soon after he made up for it though with a sublime lob from 20yds after a brilliant cross from Tom Moran.
From then on it was Corach pressure as the home side were reduced to long balls and the odd counter attack. A fine save from Conor Cleary after such an attack kept the game alive right upto the final minutes.
The lack of any substitutes lead to a few weary legs in the Corach ranks but the boys dug in and continued to fight but a goal directly from a corner put the game beyond doubt with only two minutes$3 left on the clock.
The 4-2 scoreline was no reflection on the effort the boys put in. The 11 chaps should be extremely proud of themselves for the character they showed under challenging circumstances. Standout performances from Cormac and Cian.

Bingo for Grantstown – There will be bingo for Grantstown held in Ballymitty Hall on October 1 at 3 p.m. There is €1,200 in prize money to be won on the day. There will also be a raffle with lots of prizes. Tea coffee and refreshments served.

CAMOGIE
Well Done to our under-10 girls who won their Final’s Day match beating Gorey three nil. Thanks to Seán Caulfield of Centra Campile for supplying the goody bags. Our appreciation to Séamus for his commitment to the team and to the parents for their support throughout the season.
Our under-16s won their final group game 6-11 to 3-6 against St James which puts them top of the group. Best of luck to the girls in the county semi-final on Saturday. The under-18s play their first game at home on Tuesday at 6.30.

PANTO REGISTRATION
Anyone wishing to get involved in Campile Hall’s annual Pantomime ‘Puss in Boots’ which will be held on the last week of January 2018 are asked to come along to our registration night on this coming Thursday Night, September 28, from eight to 30to 9.30 p.m. There is no need for Junior Chorus to attend this registration night as they will not be called till Christmas time.
SUPERVISED STUDY
Campile Hall Parents Supervised study group is going well so far but we still have some places available if anyone else is interested in joining, this study group is the perfect opportunity to get homework or study done without any of the usual home distractions three evenings a week here in Campile Hall.

The Hillside Vintage and Classic Club will hold their October Road Run on Sunday, October 1, departing the Hillside Bar at 12.30 p.m. continuing via Furlongs of Campile and Morrisseys of Cassagh.
