New Ross Standard

NINE FINALS FIXED

Another busy Coiste week in store

- Beaten adult football championship finalists

AFTER A bumper weekend of finals in the People Newspapers Coiste na nÓg championships, a further nine title deciders are currently scheduled for this coming week with plenty more thrills and spills guaranteed.

The week starts tonight (Tuesday) when Shelmaliers face Rathgarogue-Cushinstown in the Enniscorthy Guardian Under-16 hurling Premier shield final in Taghmon. These sides have already played each other twice this season with both winning when they hosted so it promises to be a cracker.

The following evening HWH-Bunclody and Horeswood meet in St. Patrick’s Park (6.45 p.m.) for the Gorey Guardian Juvenile football Roinn 1 championship title. Both of these sides have played nine championship games to get to this final and neither has tasted defeat so it should be another competitive title decider.

There’s a double-header of finals scheduled for St. Patrick’s Park on Thursday evening. First up at 6.45 p.m. is the New Ross Standard Under-14 football Division 1 championship final between Naomh Eanna and Sarsfields. The Gorey boys are looking for a double but come up against Wexford’s talented Féile representatives with a point to prove.

That game is followed at 8 p.m. by the meeting of Crossabeg-Ballymurn and Moguegeen Gaels in the Wexford People Minor football Roinn 2 shield final. The Wexford District side have fallen in a lot of close games against good teams this season while their opponents have won more than they have lost all year.

Buffers Alley and Fethard go toe-to-toe in the New Ross Standard Under-14 football Division 2 championship final on Friday evening. Fethard were imperious going through the group stages with seven straight wins. The Monamolin side only missed out on the Division 1 semis by a whisker so a highly competitive decider is anticipated.

There’s no surprise about St. James’ marching through the knockout stages and into the Enniscorthy Guardian Juvenile hurling Roinn 2 championship final having blitzed through the group stages. However, their opponents on Saturday (venue and time TBC) - Ballygarrett - have done it the hard way after finishing just third in the Group B table.

St. Patrick’s Park is the current venue for Bannow-Ballymitty and Davidstown-Courtnacuddy in the Enniscorthy Guardian Juvenile hurling Roinn 2 shield final on Saturday. Davidstown lost by a single point to cup finalists Ballygarrett in the group stages so probably go into the decider as marginal favourites.

On Sunday in St. Patrick’s Park, Duffry Rovers will be looking to bounce back from their New Ross Standard Under-14 hurling Division 4 championship final loss by claiming the Division 5 football crown. Taghmon-Camross are their opponents, and they were due to play a shield final last week but it fell foul of the weather.

Finally, on Monday evening of next week, the re-arranged New Ross Standard Under-14 football Division 1 shield final takes place between HWH-Bunclody and St. Martin’s. Throw-in in St. Patrick’s Park is 7 p.m. between a St. Martin’s side which competed well in Division 1 and a Bunclody team which was competitive against the best that Division 2 had to offer.

Any finals played already and not covered in the newspaper will be featured in the coming weeks.
