Ross Celtic march on FAI JUNIOR CUP

-

THERE WAS plenty of joy for Wexford representatives in the second round of the FAI Junior Cup on Sunday.

Ballymurphy Celtic made the short journey from County Carlow to face New Ross Celtic, but the trip proved to be a fruitless one, with the hosts running out 3-0 winners.

Colm St. Ledger, Eoin Rhodes and Dylan Wickham got the goals for the New Ross outfit as they chalked up a comfortable and impressive victory.

Corach Ramblers travelled to Kilkenny to face Freebooters F.C. and Alan Diskin grabbed the winner as they eked out a 2-1 triumph after extra-time.

Mick Walsh had earlier hit the back of the net for the Danescastle-based side.

Wexford Premier Division table-toppers Gorey Rangers edged past Monksland United 1-0 at Ramstown, with Adam Territt-King getting the all-important goal, while a single goal was also enough for Courtown Hibs as they saw off Suncroft F.C., with Cathal Dunbar hitting the back of the net.

Gorey Celtic had a far easier passage than their north county rivals, completely overwhelming Mill Celtic 7-2 thanks to a Darragh Curran hat-trick and further goals from Matty Kavanagh, Dion Leeson, Des Wolohan and Dillon Kenny.

Wexford Bohs travelled to take on Mountmellick United and came away with an impressive 5-2 victory, with Dermie Flood (two), Seán Pailing, Todd Hynes and Roy Doyle scoring for the town side.

In an all-Wexford clash, Moyne Rangers were much too good for Kilmore United, running out 7-1 winners, with Peter Marsden (two), Seán Kenny, Peter O’Rourke, John Peare, Liam Evans and James Peare getting their goals, while 47-year-old Maurice Donohoe lined out between the posts for the Enniscorthy side.

Another two local rivals to go head to head were Bunclody and Tombrack, with the latter twice coming from behind to win 3-2. Eoin Carton hit the back of the net for the winners, while James Coleman bagged a double.

It wasn’t all good news for the Wexford sides, however, with Bridge Rovers losing 6-3 away to Parkville United, Killenagh Wanderers falling 5-0 to Hanover Harps, and Curracloe United losing 5-4 on penalties to Naas United after a 1-1 draw.

Graham Howlin, Colin Nolan and Paddy McMahon got on the scoresheet for Campile United, but they lost out 8-3 to Highview Athletic, while North End United were handed a walkover from Brookville F.C.
