ICA NEWS

Duncannon ICA held its first meeting since the summer break on Tuesday, September 12, in the St Louis Day Care Centre. The 14 members were delighted to extend a very warm welcome to our new member Marie Kehoe.

Our summer recess began with a celebratory al fresco meal to mark the guild being placed fourth in the Special Occasion competition. This great result was achieved through the creativity, skill and hard work of Rosaleen, Gretta and Catherine supported by Deirdre. Gretta’s cold summer starter was placed second just one point behind the winner. A large platter of salads presented by Trudi’s Catering Kitchen to participating guilds was enjoyed by members on a sunny evening in the courtyard of the Dunbrody Centre. Catherine suggested a visit to the Vermeer exhibition in the recently refurbished National Gallery. This was a small but special collection of Vermeer’s work and those who travelled greatly enjoyed the experience. After Dublin the exhibition travelled to the USA for its very last showing.

After the minutes of monthly meeting were read the diaries were taken out as Gretta outlined the many events for the coming months. A bus was organised to travel to the Ploughing Championships on September 19 at a cost of five euro per person. This year the County Federation has decided to support the Vincent de Paul and the Cottage Autism Network and a sponsored walk has been organised for Sunday, October 1.in Kennedy Park.

The Federation meeting will be hosted by the guild on Monday the 25th in the centre. The competition on the night is a one minute speech on ‘My summer News’. On Thursday the 28th 10 members will attend a candle and tealight making course given by Irene Kelly, Green Road Gardens, Battlestown. Rosaleen asked members to bring along memorabilia as she plans to organise it into a collection.

Lucy Murphy and Gina Ryan gave an interesting talk on the properties and uses of Forever Living aloe vera products. In the collection are over 300 products ranging from health drinks to supplements to skincare.

The competition for a bunch of three hydrangea was won by Gretta, Sarah and Deirdre. Bebe and Gretta were lucky in the raffle. The meeting concluded with chat and tea hosted by Una.
