Enniscorthy finally off mark

-

ENNISCORTHY 36, BOYNE 0: Enniscorthy recorded their first Leinster League win of the season after disappointingly losing their two openers.

They were able to welcome back Killian Lett, Tom Ryan, Richard and Arthur Dunne after their respective G.A.A. commitments.

They started with real intent and were rewarded with an early opening try from Nick Doyle who was making his first start of the season. He did all the hard work himself, picking the ball from the back of the scrum to gallop over the line.

The forwards were well on top and Ivan Poole at out-half took full advantage. It was a particularly good day for right winger Ivan Jacob who grabbed himself a hat-trick of tries as Boyne struggled to handle his blistering pace.

Enniscorthy led 18-0 at the break. They continued to pound the visitors’ line in the second-half, and Enniscorthy added further tries from Ivan Poole and a brace from Killian Lett.

It turned out to be an easy win at the end but as captain Ivan Poole explained, Boyne offered weak resistance.

‘I know we scored 36 points but to be honest Boyne were disappointing. Having said that, the lads played well. It is good to have Declan (O’Brien) involved more this year and some of the younger lads are starting to force their way onto the team.

‘Joe Carley was outstanding today and the likes of Tom Farrar and Murt Kehoe are also emerging to put pressure on the starters. We are delighted to get the win but it is a difficult league this year.

‘D.L.S.P., Wicklow, Ashbourne and Gorey are very strong and the reality for us now is that we will possibly have to win all our remaining matches to win the league.’

Team: Angelo Todisco, Davy Murphy, Paddy Waters, Joe Bulmer, Joe Carley, Jim White, Tom Ryan, Nick Doyle (try), Evan Lett, Ivan Poole (three conversions), Daniel Pim, David O’Dwyer, Killian Lett (two tries), Ivan Jacob (three tries), Ross Barbour. Subs. (all used) - Arthur Dunne, Richard Dunne, Tom Farrar, Anthony White, Murt Kehoe.
