Shelburne go through LFA JUNIOR CUP
SHELBURNE NEEDED extra-time but they eventually shook off the attentions of Monasterevan in their O’Neill’s LFA Junior Cup Sunday section first round clash, running out 4-2 winners at Ballywilliam.
Brian Minogue netted a double for the hosts, while Kieran Kelly and Chris Connick chipped in with a goal apiece.
In the second round Corach Ramblers marched on with a 3-1 win over DAA F.C. Niall Harney bagged a double for the Danescastle-based outfit, with Gareth McCurtin also hitting the back of the net for the winners.
North End United earned a facile 4-0 win away to Ballymurphy Celtic, with goals from Lee Smith, Paul Murphy (two) and Shane Dempsey, while fellow Premier Division title-hopefuls Gorey Rangers also had a good win on their travels. The north county men saw off Spartak Dynamo 3-1 in Marlay Park, with Gavin O’Brien scoring a brace and Eric Quinn getting their other goal.
Colin O’Brien got on the scoresheet for Courtown Hibs, but they lost out 2-1 to OMP United, while Kilmore went down 4-0 to a strong Ayrefield United side.
New Ross Celtic were up against it when they were reduced to ten men shortly after the hour mark against Hardwicke F.C. at Stella Maris. Their exertions eventually told when they were beaten 6-3 after extra-time, with Alan Rhodes, Eoin Rhodes and Cathal Murphy scoring for the Barrowsiders.
