1 SPIEGELTEN­T CONCERT: Taghmon Camross Coiste na nóg are hosting a concert in the Spiegelten­t on the Quay in Wexford on Monday, October 17. Acts include Michael D’Arcy, from Corner Boy, Wexford crooners Tony Carty and George Lawlor, the incredible folk pop band The Gallivants (Luke Jackson, Marty Mullally and Jack Robinson), the hilarious Biddy Walsh, Jeanette Sydney and the Sydney Girls, Wexford Has Talent 2017 winners Seventh Frett, singer Mick Devlin, the singing stars from the Bride Street Folk Group, Taghmon’s Got Talent winners Anita and John Cullen, Voice of Ireland star Helena Bates and Wexford country and trad singer Sarah Murphy. Tickets are €10 each and are available at the Spiegelten­t Box Office, at 1 North Main Street, Wexford. Doors open at 7.15 p.m. and the show starts at 7.45 p.m. A great night is guaranteed, so please show your support. The will be great door prizes and a feast of top-class entertainm­ent on the night, with Wexford’s top acts taking to the Spiegelten­t stage offering something for everyone in the audience. Corner Boy will be appearing at the Spiegelten­t on October 19.

2 HARVEST HOOLEY: Monaghan music sensation Marty Mone of ‘Hit the Diff’, ‘Slip the Clutch’, and ‘The Ploughing Song’ fame will bring his show to a Harvest Hooley barn dance in Kinsella’s shed at the Rock, Gorey, this Saturday, October 14, from 8.30 p.m. The event, which also includes a barbecue, is hosted by Wicklow Macra Na Feirme. 3 STONE CARVING COURSE: A one-day Stone Carving Course with Barbara Kelly will take place at the Irish National Heritage Park on Thursday (October 12). Talented sculptor Barbara Kelly completed her BA in sculpture and will lead a course suitable for beginners and intermedia­te students. Barbara is a native of Wexford and has been a craft practition­er here her whole life working with a variety of natural material. Bring a heavy jacket and strong work boots. The course cost is €75. 4 World Mental Health Week: coffee events hosted by the mental health charity GROW will be held today (Tuesday) in the Loch Garman Arms Hotel, Gorey from 10 am to 12 pm and Wexford Mental Health Associatio­n in Henrietta Street, Wexford from 1 pm to 2 pm. 5 CHILDREN’S BOOK FESTIVAL: A children’s book festival takes place at New Ross Library this week. On Wednesday at 12 noon writer Caroline Busher will host a ‘Vulgar Victorians and Ghastly Georgians’ Workshop suitable for children aged between 10 and 12 years. On Saturday at 11 a.m. there will be a book clinic at the library where Dr Patricia will be on duty to diagnose reading habits and prescribe good reads for children. On Monday at 2 p.m. illustrato­r and storytelle­r Wayne O’Connor will bring teenagers on a magical journey into the world of JRR Tolkien. Contact 051 421877 for more informatio­n.

6 THE FIELD: Kerry playwright John B Keane’s The Field is being staged at St. Michael’s Theatre in New Ross on Thursday, October 12, Friday, October 13 and Saturday, October 14, at 8 p.m. The theatre located on South Street in New Ross once again teams up with the talented young Wexford director Paul Walsh to present a classic of the Irish stage, which has been performed throughout the world on countless stages. The play tells the story of The Bull McCabe and the lengths he goes to to protect his piece of land. Tickets are available at the St Michael’s Theatre box office on 051 421255.

7 SPIEGELTEN­T FESTIVAL: The Wexford Spiegelten­t Festival opens this Friday night (October 13) on Wexford Quayfront with Seventies legends Smokie (which is sold out) and runs for 19 days, through into the Opera Festival. The programme features 30 events, with music covering a range of tastes from Cry Before Dawn, Aslan and Hothouse Flowers, to Hudson Taylor and the Riptide Movement. The festival also features some top comedy acts, among them Al Porter, Dermot & Dave, and Reginald B Hunter, and events for the family - including an appearance for Bosco himself.
