Health centre’s Breda calls it a day after 38 years

-

BREDA BENNETT had a final day at work to treasure when she was treated to a night out and several presentations from colleagues past and present from New Ross Health Centre, where she worked for 38 years.

Breda started working at the centre - located on the new hospital grounds - in around 1980 as a cleaner and assistant caretaker, also working at the ambulance service building and at Maryville, the community hospital, the health training unit and the old Park House.

{Se previouslu worked at St Joseph’s NS.

From Cross Street, Breda is married to Robbie and has five children, Kieran, Dessie, Helena, Rosie and Foley, who joined her for her retirement party at the Horse & Hound.

Health Centre clerical officer Noreen Murphy said Breda was surprised to see former colleagues at the party, adding that it was a emotional and a happy night for her.

Describing Breda as a dedicated, hard working woman, who was always very pleasant and was known by the staff of the several centres where she worked, Noreen said she provided a constant link between all of the staff coming and going through the centres’ doors.

Everyone enjoyed a four course meal and refreshments and Breda received presentations from the health centre’s social club, the ambulance crew and from former work colleagues.

Noreen said Breda fostered many children over the years and is a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She said she is looking forward to her retirement and to enjoying a few breaks and more time with her grandchildren.

‘Breda is already missed by us all and we wish her well in her retirement,’ Noreen said.
