COUNTY CHAMPIONS

Congratulations to the Fethard Intermediate A Hurling team who put the disappointment of last year’s defeat behind them to capture the title. They played Duffry Rovers in the final in Wexford Park and had advantage of the wind in the first half. When mid-fielder John Tubritt burst through for a fine individual goal it put them 1-3 to no score ahead and they went on to lead by 1-7 to 0-4 at half time.

Things looked to be going Fethard’s way when they extended the lead to seven and Duffry were reduced to 14 men after 35 minutes. However, the Duffry really upped their game and had reduced the lead to a single point with one minute of normal time left. However, as in other games Fethard finished strongly and points from Ciaran Dwyer and Man of the match, Mark Wallace secured the victory on a 1-13 to 0-13 scoreline.

After the game the Cup was presented to team captain, Garrett Foley, who delivered a rousing acceptance speech. Well done to all involved and in particular to the management team Lorcan and Paul Barden, Matty Hyland and trainer Kevin Bolger also physio Ann Whelan. They now play the winners of Carlow or Wicklow in the Leinster Championship on October 21.
