Drugs worth €150,000 seized in massive garda operation

MORE than €150,000 in cannabis and cocaine was seized by gardaí over recent days in a major garda operation.

Operation New Ross swung into action on October 19 and continued until Wednesday, October 25. The armed response unit and a garda dog handler joined a team of New Ross gardaí under Detective John Barrett in the searches, which led to four arrests for the alleged sale or supply of drugs in the area, along with a number of drugs possession arrests.

Approximat­ely €100,000 in cannabis was seized at a house in the Duncormick area on Wednesday at 10 a.m. A local man aged in his early fifties was arrested and the investigat­ion is ongoing.

Around €45,000 in cocaine and cannabis was found in a house in the Brooklawn estate area of New Ross on Friday night at 10 p.m. A local man, aged 40, was arrested.

Ten bench warrants were executed during the six-day operation.

Ten homes in New Ross, Campile, Carrig-on-Bannow and Fethard-on-Sea were raided in intelligen­ce led investigat­ions. Sergeant Eddie Wilde said: ‘We are taking the drug problem seriously and are making good in-roads into it. We have increased our checkpoint­s.’
