- By DAIVID LOOBY

A PALL of sadness hung over New Ross and surrounding areas over recent days following the deaths of two young members of the community, Sinéad Breen and Patrick Wall.

There were heartbreaking scenes yesterday (Monday) as Patrick Wall (30) was laid to rest having taken gravely ill suddenly and died eight days later at Beaumont Hospital.

Late of Coolboy, Newbawn, Patrick collapsed while attending Adamstown surgery on Tuesday, October 24. He was rushed to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where, despite the best efforts of doctors and surgeons, he passed away surrounded by his parents Paddy and Eileen and his twin brother Michael on Wednesday.

A keen athlete, Patrick was in the prime of life and was looking forward to competing in a marathon in Germany on Saturday.

Sinéad, late of Deerpark, New Ross, and The Rower, was laid to rest on Thursday, days after her 34th birthday.

A devoted mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend to many, Sinéad defied medics by surviving cancer three years longer than expected, giving her family precious time with her.

A sociable, outgoing person, Sinéad loved music and enjoying the craic. Her sister Eilis said: ‘She loved having people around her. She could never do enough for people.’

THERE were heartbreaking scenes yesterday (Monday) as Newbawn man Patrick Wall was laid to rest having taken gravely ill suddenly in County Wexford and died eight days later at Beaumont Hospital.

Patrick collapsed while attending Adamstown surgery on Tuesday, October 24. He was rushed to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where - despite the best efforts of doctors and surgeons - he passed away surrounded by his parents Paddy and Eileen and his twin brother Michael on Wednesday.

A keen athlete, Patrick was in the prime of life.

Born on November 5, 1986, he grew up in the family home in Coolboy, Newbawn, attending Sacred Heart National School, before going on to Good Counsel College.

A talented golfer from a young age, Patrick represented the club in numerous competitions to great success - winning many trophies.

After school he followed his passion and worked at New Ross Golf Club and later at Callan Golf Club and Kilkenny Golf Club. He lived at the family home and commuted to work.

Patrick loved sports and was a very fit man, enjoying cycling and running marathons. He was due to run in the Frankfurt Marathon on Saturday and loved going away for breaks around the world with his friends.

Patrick also enjoyed comedy and attended many gigs in Dublin with his brother Michael, who works in the city.

Michael said: ‘He never had any health issues. It was a freak occurrence. Patrick was a gentle character. He was a fun lad who always wanted to look after other people. He never had a bad word to say about anyone.’

Deep sadness was felt around Newbawn and surrounding areas at the news of Patrick’s sudden passing. His remains reposed at Ryan’s Funeral Home in Wellingtonbridge over the weekend prior to removal to the Church of the Sacred Heart in Newbawn on Sunday. A huge crowd attended Patrick’s Funeral Mass on Monday and his burial afterwards in the new cemetery in Clongeen.

Patrick is sadly missed by his loving family, relatives and friends.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
