Padraig scoops top prize in Hook photograph­y competitio­n

The fourth annual Hook Peninsula Photograph­y Exhibition opened at the Dunbrody Famine Ship on Thursday.

The competitio­n which is run by Hook Tourism, attracted over 100 entries in four categories.

The overall prize was won by Padraig Molloy for his captivatin­g and colourful image of Stonechat birds, taken at Hook Head. Padraig also won the Up Close & Personal Category. Prizes were also awarded to Michael Carroll, Man Made Category; Jennie Byrne, Hook Peninsula Experience Category; Mark Simpson, Discoverin­g the Hidden Category; and Catherine White for the People’s Choice Category.

Prizes were presented by Norma Quinsey of Visit Wexford.

The exhibition will be on display in the Dunbrody Famine Ship until November 8 and will then travel to County Hall in Wexford for the month of January, followed by a number of libraries in the south east; showcasing the Hook’s built heritage, landscape, wildlife and people.

Emer Delaney of Hook Tourism said: ‘ We are delighted with this year’s entries, taken by both talented amateur and profession­al photograph­ers, and it gives us great pleasure to be able to share them with the public.’

Last year’s exhibition went on to be seen by over 35,000 people at eight different venues.’

Ms Delaney thanked Patrick Browne for judging this year’s competitio­n, Norma Quinsey from Visit Wexford for presenting the prizes and Séan Connick and his team at the Dunbrody Famine Ship for hosting the launch and making it such a great success.

Prizes were kindly sponsored by Faithlegg House Hotel & Golf Resort, Whitford House Hotel, Kelly’s Resort Hotel & Spa, Think Print & Design, Sam McCauley Chemists, Joyces Home Centre New Ross, Mannion’s Pub and Zaeire Artisan Chocolates.
