Soldier talk
On Tuesday, November 7, at 7 p.m., New Ross Library hosts ‘From Soldier to Senator’, a fascinating talk on Galway-born Bryan Mahon (1863–1930) who spent most of his life soldiering for king and country.
Briefly famous for the Relief of Mafeking in the Second Boer War, he was selected by Lord Kitchener to recruit and command the 10th Irish Division in the First World War. The lecture will be given by Bríd Nowlan who is completing a biography of General Sir Bryan Mahon, begun by her father, the late Major-General Patrick Nowlan, a New Ross native.
