House plans lodged for landmark Trinity Hospital
A planning application has been lodged to build three two-storey houses and extensions to the rear of the Holy Trinity Hospital in New Ross.
The detached seven-bay two-storey almshouse or ‘hospital’ dates back to 1772 when it was erected by Charles Tottenham (1716-95) of MacMurragh House.
The Master Brethern of the poor of the former hospital applied in early October to Wexford County Council to carry out works on the north building. If granted permission the works will include three two-bedroom houses, which will involve demolition of parts of the non-original building fabric and the construction of the three two-storey extensions to the rear of the property.
A decision on the planning application is due in December.
