Ramsgrange Community School goes back in time for 40th celebrations
THIS year marks the 40th anniversary of Ramsgrange Community School and to mark the occasion more than 200 past pupils and staff came back for an evening of remembering and reminiscing on Friday, October 20.
The school’s staff and students have a year of celebrations planned, from a giant student birthday party, a CD launch of hits of 1977, burying a time capsule and a 70s, 80s and 90s dress up day.
The celebrations were kicked off with a whole school photograph taken by drone in mid October, co-ordinated by the TY students. The highlight so far was the evening of celebrations involving past pupils who attended in numbers despite the best efforts of Storm Ophelia and Storm Brian. Classrooms were set up according to decades and had photos and slideshows from the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s.
The school’s origins go back to when Shielbaggan VEC amalgamated with the St Louis Convent and a new community building was built. The guests of honour were the St Louis Order, representatives from the WWETB and the current board of management. Events started with a beautiful prayer service in the stunning school gym and the school choir sang beautifully.
One of the highlights of the evening was a solo performance from past pupil Kieran Power, which received a well deserved standing ovation. Guests then made their way to the launch of the Community Art Exhibition, which was a great success with may fine pieces on display. The evening culminated in a feast prepared by the Home Economics and catering team with food sponsored by local companies Floods Centra and Pagannini Desserts. Past pupil Seam McComish provided entertainment as guests and current

staff and pupils mingled, catching up with old friends until they headed home before Storm Brian took hold.
