Gala awards night to recognise best in local business
THIS SATURDAY the hard working businesspeople of the New Ross district will gather at the Brandon House Hotel for a night of fine food and great entertainment, when the main business event of the year in the area, the New Ross & District Business and Community Awards, sponsored by Wexford County Council, takes place.
Held in association with long standing media partners, the New Ross Standard, the event will see businesses new and old from across the district, stretching from Taghmon to the Hook Peninsula, recognised for their success and contribution to the community over the past year.
These annual awards highlight and showcase the great businesses, employers, community organisations and people in the area that have worked hard to deliver quality goods and services to us all, making New Ross and district the great place to live, work and do business that it is.
Over the past year the town has seen several new businesses open and numerous properties renovated. With the economy improving and the bypass due to open in 15 months, businesses across the district have been investing in their properties in anticipation of busy times ahead.
This year your local newspaper, which has been in the community since the mid-1800s, is once again sponsoring the Person of the Year Award. The award was established to honour business and community people for their outstanding achievements and invaluable contributions which have enhanced New Ross and the surrounding area. The general public have once again voted for the New Ross District Person of the Year. Past winners include Ann Somers, Sean Reidy, Bettie-Marie Burger – Smit, Brian McMahon, and Anna Furlong. This year a record number of well deserving local business people and community activists have been nominated.
All will be revealed on Saturday night at the gala ball.
There is also always great interest in Employee of the Year Award which recognises the hard work and positive attitude of employees who go above and beyond the call of duty in their workplaces and, in doing so, enhance the area’s reputation for quality service. This person is nominated by both employers and work colleagues. There are 12 awards in total and the winners of each category will receive a specially commissioned piece which has been kindly sponsored by world class master sculptor Fred Curtis of Fred Curtis Crystal . The remaining finalists will receive a ‘Certificate of Excellence’.
An evening of fine food, style and great entertainment awaits everyone who is attending this gala black tie event which highlights the businesses and community groups that make New Ross and its hinterland such a wonderful place in which to shop, eat out, stay and do business.
The organisers of this year’s event have gone all out to ensure this will be a night of fun, excellent food and music.
Music on the night will be provided by Elemeno and MC for the evening will be Mr Alan Corcoran.

The night will allow our hard working businesspeople to take time out from their hectic schedules and enjoy the company of their business colleagues while being recognised by the wider community. It being a Saturday night event many business owners will be able to kick back and enjoy a fun filled night among their peers without having to worry about work the following morning.
From new businesses, to long established businesses, from community groups, to individuals who have brought their passion and skill to their work, the awards are the one occasion when the business community comes together to celebrate the area in which they work, shop and do business, at a time when online interaction and shopping is becoming increasingly popular, to the detriment of communities.
There was a huge number of entries into the annual awards which bodes well for the future of our town and area which has some of the most entrepreneurial business people in the country.
Every business is a story in our community, one of hard work and hopes and dreams, and the Wexford County Council supported awards give our excellent local businesses the opportunity to tell their unique, inspiring stories.
In each and every case the success always comes back to looking after the customer and offering the best service in their field.
