THE finalists in the New Ross & District Business & Community Awards 2017 have been officially announced by Chairman of the Awards Judging Panel, Mr Tony Ennis of Ennis & Co.

The aim of the awards is to celebrate the achievemen­ts of the businesses and community organisati­ons in New Ross town and across the district.

Local businesses and organisati­ons have been selected as finalists across the following nine categories are:

The Best in Tourism shortlist is Brandon House Hotel, Creacon Lodge Wellness Retreat Centre, Irish Experience T/A Hook Head Adventures, John F Kennedy Trust, Loftus Hall. Best new start-up: Betty O’Neill Nutritiona­l Therapy, Confidence in Singing, Irish Experience T/A Hook Head Adventures, Lisa’s Café and The Clotheslin­e Boutique. Community & Social Enterprise Award: Cottage Autism Network, CUMAS, New Ross Credit Union, New Ross Park Run and Taghmon Action Group. Profession­al Services Award: Doyle & Partners Integrated Design Ltd, Lodge Road Therapy Room, Sam McCauley’s Pharmacy (South Street), Sew It Seams and Wellbeing Techniques. Best in Retail: Dunbrody Famine Ship Experience & Restaurant, Emerald Dry Cleaners, New Ross Credit Union, Sam McCauley’s (South Street) and The Kennedy Homestead.

Businesswo­man of the Year: Carrie’s Creations, Lady Melia Fashions, Lodge Road Therapy Room, Sew It Seams and Wellbeing Techniques.

Small Business of the Year: Confidence in Singing, Lisa’s Cafe, Lodge Road Therapy Room, Loftus Hall and The Clotheslin­e Boutique.

Social Media Award: Betty O’Neill Nutrition, Confidence in Singing, Lady Melia Fashions and Lisa’s Café.

Sports Club of the Year: Horeswood Camogie Club, New Ross Boat Club, New Ross Swimming Club and United Strider’s Athletics Club.

Chairperso­n of Organising Committee Margaret Goldsmith said: ‘It’s great to see that entries are up again on last year. This shows that small companies and organisati­ons are resilient, putting their best foot forward and seeking recognitio­n for their efforts.’

This year, all finalists will be included in a draw. The winner of the draw will then choose a charity of their choice and the chamber will donate €200 on their behalf.

The awards ceremony will take place at the gala evening, kindly sponsored by Wexford County Council on Saturday in the Brandon House Hotel. The awards will be presented on the night by Category Sponsors - AIB Bank, Wexford Local Enterprise Office, Guardian Fire & Safety, Lake Region Medical Ltd an Integer Company, Secret Valley Wildlife Farm & Zoo, Creacon Wellness Retreat, JFK Trust, New Ross Standard, Loftus Hall, Fred Curtis Crystal, Tweeting Goddess AKA Samantha Kelly.

Wine on the night has been kindly sponsored by Molloy’s Supervalu New Ross, along with sponsorshi­p from Brandon House Hotel.

Chamber CEO Teresa Delaney said: ‘ Without the continued support from all of our sponsors this event could not be held.’

The winner of the ‘New Ross & District Person of the Year’ 2017 along with the ‘Employee of the Year’ will also be announced on the night, with the highly anticipate­d “Overall Business of the Year 2017 also being announced.
