4-year plan to keep us active

- By ESTHER HAYDEN

THE SECOND Sports Active Wexford Strategic Plan was launched recently by Sport Ireland chief executive officer John Treacy.

The new four-year plan heralds the next chapter for sport and physical activity across the county.

Sports Active Wexford was established in 2008 and has grown enormously in terms of reach, influence and impact. The sporting landscape and financial climate has changed significantly over the years but they navigated through those changes and continue to operate from a position of strength.

Sports Active Wexford is one of a national network of 31 Local Sports Partnerships established under the aegis of Sport Ireland.

Wexford Sport Active board chairman Cllr Frank Staples said: ‘ This strategy sets out the vision and aspirations, in particular Ireland wishes to ensure a growth in participation at grass-roots level with a strong focus on providing opportunities to be physically active and develop a lifelong habit of participation, in line with the National Physical Activity Plan 2015-2020.’

Launching the plan John Treacy said: ‘As with all strategic planning processes, the published document is simply the final phase and it is the consultation, evaluation and debate carried out during the process which gives life and value to this strategy.

‘It is a culmination of the work of several partner agencies striving to create a more active local population. I would like to thank all those who contributed to the strategy process, in particular the staff and Board of Sports Active Wexford.’
