Horeswood all set to celebrate

Tenth anniversary of club

-

THE CURRENT incarnation of Horeswood Camogie Club was set up in 2007 by Majella Cummins and Trish Hayes, who are still very active in the club at present.

They wanted to provide the opportunity for girls to play camogie while also providing a social outlet for them. The main ethos of the club is to provide a fun and safe place for girls to learn the skills of camogie. Many of our coaches have completed a Foundation or Level 1 coaching course.

The club caters for girls from six years of age right up to adults. We currently field eight teams, Under-8s right up to Junior ‘B’. The club runs all year round with skills and fitness the focus for the winter months. Over the years the club has been fundraising with different events from table quizzes, an annual Halloween party, and mega draws.

This year is the tenth anniversary of the club and it has been exceptional, with the Junior ‘C’s winning both the league and the championship, the Under-16s winning their Roinn 1 league/ championship, and the Under-14s reaching the final in their league.

The club is also very proud of all the girls in the various grades as they all wear their hearts on their sleeves all season lone. The club was also represented at county level this year by five of the Under-16 girls.

Last year two club members represented their school at All-Ireland level and are now All-Ireland Junior school champions. The club is also up for an award for club of the year at the New Ross business and community awards night.

To mark the occasion of the club’s tenth anniversary, the club are having a dinner dance on November 18 in the Horse and Hound at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in the celebrations.

Tickets are €35 for adults, €20 for players and €15 for children. Tickets may be obtained from any committee members or by contacting Dean on 083-8288331.

As with any club there would not be a history without the support of parents, players, managers, trainers, community and local businesses. The club would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their continued support which allowed us to grow and progress as a club over the past ten years, and hopefully for the next ten also.

We welcome new members all year round and adults who would like to get involved and help out with the different age groups.
