Enniscorthy in Junior Cup exit

Enniscorthy were dominant in the scrum, and from this good ball they swept the ball wide and with one skipped pass left wing David O’Dwyer touched down in the corner.
The first-half ended when Newcastlewest’s scrum-half converted a penalty to leave the score 15-10 to the visitors.
Newcastlewest took charge after the interval following a series of errors from Enniscorthy. Their flanker ran in for a try under the posts almost unopposed. Their scrum-half kicked another penalty from well out.
On 60 minutes Enniscorthy moved the ball from well inside their ‘22, with Ivan Jacob failing to gather a sloppy pass. His opposite number picked up the loose ball and ran in under the posts from 15 metres.
Enniscorthy were now twelve points behind and in serious trouble. To their credit they hauled themselves back into the game when centre Daniel Pim crossed over in the corner after a series of attacks.
The visitors pressed on and scored another try through their rolling maul, with flanker Tom Ryan getting the touchdown. Ivan Poole missed both conversions, which were difficult, to put Enniscorthy ahead.
Enniscorthy continued to press and had two more chances, one a penalty and also a line-out five metres out, but failed to make them count.
The game ended with a penalty kick from the man of the match, Newcastlewest’s scrum-half, who made the difference by kicking five out of five on the day.
It’s back to the Leinster League next Saturday when Enniscorthy play away in Gorey at 2.30 p.m.
