NEW ROSS DRAMA WORKSHOP TAKES HOME TOP AWARDS FROM DUBLIN

NEW ROSS Drama Workshop scooped major awards at a competitio­n in Dublin at the weekend.

The group won the Palmerstow­n Festival outright with Edward Hayden and Seona O’Connor picking up best actor and best actress awards respective­ly for their roles in The Tinker’s Wedding. Directed by Peggy Hussey ‘The Tinkers Wedding’ by John Millington Synge, was performed at venues across the region recently, including in Campile Hall and at St Michael’s Theatre last week.

They say that “Drama does not walk into your life; Either you create it, invite it or associate with it”. Well that is certainly the case of New Ross Drama Workshop who impresed judges in Palmerstow­n.

They have won best play in Goresbridg­e, came second in Coolgreany and Killmalloc­k respective­ly. Martina Kavanagh picked up the best actress award in Goresbridg­e and in Kilmallock. Peggy Hussey won best director and Peter Madden won best actor in Kilmallock with nomination­s in the best actress/ actor category also for Seona O’Connor and Edward Hayden.

The fabulous set by Paul Walsh and Brid Walsh, stage management by Margaret Rossiter & Kate O’ Keeffe, costumes by Mary Hennelly, makeup by Kitty Warren and lighting by John Caulfield have been highly commended by all adjudicato­rs on the circuit.

The group have now finished its circuit and have a good chance of qualifying for the All Ireland Final which will take place in Letterkenn­y on the first weekend of December.
