1798 monuments to be cleaned across county
CLLR Barbara Anne Murphy has called for 1798 monuments around the district to be cleaned in preparation for the 220th anniversary.
Speaking at the recent Enniscorthy Municipal District Meeting, Cllr Murphy said that quite a lot of the monuments ‘need some work’ and this should be done ahead of the next milestone.
District Manager Liz Hore said that the topic might be something which could be raised with a steering committee which is being set up to deal with the 220th anniversary of what was a momentous year for the cause of Irish freedom.
Director of Services John Carley agreed that something should be done to ensure the monuments are looking well saying: ‘I agree they should be kept looking well out of respect.’
