ICA GUILD NEWS

The October meeting of Duncannon ICA was held on Tuesday the 10th in the St Louis Day Care Centre with 14 members attending. The president Gretta warmly welcomed a new member Rosemarie Butler.

A vote of sympathy was passed with Bebe on the death of her brother Peter.

The federation meeting was hosted by the guild in the Day Care Centre on September 25. Those attending from all over Co. Wexford were most complimentary of the facilities available on the night and the lovely tea served by guild members. All involved can take a

bow for a job well done. The next Federation meeting will be held on November 27 in Bree.

The candlemaking course on September 25 held at Green Road Gardens, Battlestown, facilitated by Irene Kelly, was greatly enjoyed by the 10 members attending. The morning began with tea or coffee and homemade muffins followed by a demonstration on teacup candle making. Then it was down to business. Cups and various containers were chosen, widths measured and correct wicks selected. Perfume either vanilla or lavender was mixed into the melted soya wax and the wick glued to the base of container before pouring the wax. Then it was a matter of standing back in admiration and waiting for the wax to set. Some being a little more adventurous experimented with colour.

Irene then showed us various ways of decorating tea lights. Tin cans for outdoor hanging lights were decorated with decoupage and designs were pierced on using nails. Other containers were decorated with natural materials such as bark, seeds and leaves and completed with old lace and ribbon. The morning concluded with a delicious lunch and chat. Thank you Irene for a really enjoyable class.

On Saturday, November 11, a bus will travel to the jnitting and Stitching Show and travel passes will be accepted. This trip is available to everybody. Enquiries to Gretta.

The competition for the nicest small milk jug was won by Kathleen with Mary O’K in second place. Raffle winners were Mary C, Una, Eileen and Catherine. Next month’s competition is autumn colour from the hedgerow. The meeting concluded with a lovely tea served by Kathleen.
