Men’s Shed gets €61k for new premises

-

THE MEN’S SHED group in New Ross have been awarded €61,000 in funding for a new premises in Irishtown.

Club secretary Brian Delaney said €61,000 was awarded by Leader for the new premises which will be located behind the current shed, which will remain open.

Mr Delaney said New Ross has always been a town left behind when it came to employment compared to all the other towns in the county and country and therefore needed adequate men’s shed facilities for its men.

‘We are over the moon,’ he said. ‘We got more than we applied for as there were added expenses. We are in Irishtown four years and have 22 members, not including the allotments. This money will allow us to build a workshop of 13m by 7m and a games room with a snooker table and dart board in a 7m by 7m room.’

Mr Delaney said work is due to start on the building shortly and it is due to open in the spring.

‘ This is what we want to develop for men’s health and to open up their minds. It took four months to put the application together and four years on we’re ready to go.’
