Miracle lorry crash escape for driver

A MAN HAD a miraculous escape when the car he was driving was in collision with an articulate­d lorry on the N25 at Davidstown, Slieverue, on Wednesday night.

The accident occuurred at around 8 p.m. on the stretch of road before the Rhu Glenn hotel, which was the scene of a fatal accident in January 2016.

Sgt Catherine O’Gorman of Thomastown Garda Station said the vehicles were travelling in the opposite direction when the crash occurred on the long stretch of road on a misty winter’s night.

The car, driven by the man who hails from County Waterford, was badly damaged in the crash. The driver suffered back pain and was taken to University Hospital Waterford by ambulance for treatment.

Sgt O’Gorman said it was very fortunate that the man, who is 43, was not badly injured. ‘ The side of the car was taken out of it. It was a shock to everyone who came upon the scene and everyone in the area. It was very lucky no one was killed.’

The main road was closed for a time as a technical exmainatio­n took place and diversions were put in place.

Meanwhile, a woman in her late 60s suffered a minor injury in a crash on Tuesday morning in Dunmain.

The single-vehicle accident occurred at 8 a.m. when the woman’s car skidded on ice into a ditch.

The fire service, paramedics and gardaí were in attendance and the woman was treated for a minor injury.
