Fire service didn’t get ‘16 medals

THE COUNCIL has pledged to look into the awarding of 1916 Centenary commemorative medals to public service workers, after a councillor claimed that firefighters did not receive them.

Cllr Michael Sheehan said he had received a letter from the fire service, petitioning for members to receive medals.

Director of Services John Carley said it was his understanding that firefighters did not receive medals but said that he would make further enquiries.
