PLOUGHERS DIG DEEP FOR OLD FOLKS’ PARTIES

SENIOR CITIZENS across the district got to enjoy fantastic Christmas celebratio­ns thanks to the ploughmen of Shamrock Vintage Club who held a traditiona­l ploughing competitio­n recently.

The club held its fifth annual ploughing event at the Maudlins in New Ross on Sunday, December 3, a sunny winter day. Ploughmen aged from 20 to over 80 competed. The results were: Single Furrow: 1st Phil Jackman, 2nd Nick Walshe, 3rd Dave Levingston­e, 4th Joe Kehoe. 2 Furrow TVO: 1st Tommy Cullen, 2nd Tommy Kielty, 3rd Liam O’Reilly, 4th Kieran Egan; 2 Furrow Diesel: 1st JJ Wickham, 2nd Aidan O’Neill, 3rd John Molone, 4th Dennis Neville. Trailer Class: 1st Jim Cullen, 2nd Seanie Murphy.

€1,020 was raised and the sum was between Adamstown, Raheen and Newbawn’s senior citizens’ groups for their Christmas parties.

The club would like to thank all of its sponsors, the land owners, the judges and the ladies who provided the catering.
