StMary’s gravessurvey

-

The graveyard at St Mary’s Church has been used by local people of all faiths for centuries, and contains some very interesting grave stones.

In the New Year an exciting project will take place over two Saturdays to survey and list all of the grave stones so that they can be located on the Historic Graves website. Many of them are weather-worn, so this is important and urgent work.

The survey depends on volunteers giving up a few hours. The survey will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 6, and continue on the following Saturday at the same time. If you can spare time please turn up at quarter to 10 p.m. at the church to get your instructions. The organisers have been assured that it is an easy task, and you will get the materials you need on the morning.

The Heritage Council is supporting this scheme which complements the great work that has already been done to make the Norman heritage of the area more accessible and will be of immense interest to people looking for their ancestors in this area.
