Roses hit 1,000 reps for charity

WHILE this year’s Rose of Tralee competition may be done and dusted, Wexford’s Rose Julie Sinnott from Ballindaggin is not done just yet and has set about raising much needed funds for two great causes in the LauraLynn Children’s Hospice and Chernobyl Children International.

Having represented her home county with aplomb in Tralee, Julie decided to take on another challenge on her return to Slaneyside – the ‘1,000 Rep Challenge’. Suggested by Louise O’Brien of Bodyblox Fitness, who was one of Julie’s main sponsors for Tralee, the challenge saw Julie and a gang of other participants take on a series of gruelling exercises with the goal of hitting 1,000 reps.

‘It was Louise who suggested the concept,’ said Julie. ‘She celebrated a year in business that weekend so it was lovely to mark the milestone in such a generous way. We were also extremely lucky to have the event sponsored by local businesses; Little Dragon Supplements, Creane & Creane Insurance, The Saucy Butcher, Lisa Malocca and SuperDine Foods. This enabled us to host a barbecue with complimentary – and much needed – refreshments afterwards.’

Among those taking part were some of Julie’s fellow Roses with Galway Rose Niamh Elwood, Wicklow Rose Abby McKenna, Westmeath Rose Eva Cooney and Waterford Rose Chloe McGrath all travelling to take part along with escorts Shane Thornton, Ger Horan, Dylan Walsh and Conor Sheridan.

The event managed to raise nearly €1,500 and Julie wishes to thank everyone who took part and contributed in any way to the success of the event.
