Strong Wexford presence for programme

-

More than 10 per cent of participants for a business start-up programme by ACORNS are based in Gorey.

ACORNS is an innovative national programme funded by the Department of Agriculture that will take 56 female company owners through a six-month support programme of workshops and business supports.

The Gorey entrepreneurs include Roya Elison, Niamh Byrne, Vicki O’Donnell, Una Keeley, Anna Syme and Lorraine O’Dwyer.

Their programme mentor is local business woman Mary B Walsh who is the founding owner and Managing Director of Ire Wel Pallets Ltd.

The businesses range from fitness and wellness to hightech and tourism. Roya’s company Detour Guide is a travel app for booking tours and activities. She is keen to work with people in the South-East who can offer certain experience to travellers and locals alike.

Niamh, owner of Ruby Rouge, has created a software programme called Schedulie, which is an online rostering and workforce management app specifically designed to meet the changing world of mobile workers. It gives business owners a way of building, maintaining and distributing work rosters and tracking their employees onsite or in the field.

In the coming months for the new year, Vicki will be looking for volunteers to try out her technology start up which harnesses scientific data and turns it into fun, educational, active and interactive applications for both adults and children. The app will help to get people out and connect with nature, learning about plants and animals in any country.

Mindful Create founder Una is offering stress reducing mindfulness workshops for individuals managing everyday struggles and for those who are dealing with severe or life changing illnesses.

Meanwhile, Anna runs The Stables which is a boutique fitness and well being destination. The Stables can be found just outside Gorey and has its own 8km running trail, obstacle course, a climbing wall and various indoor and outdoor studios for fitness training, yoga and pilates.

Lorraine’s Gallivanting Tours gives visitors the chance to explore such sites in county Wexford and to indulge in their favourite artisan foods, such as bacon, chocolate, cheese and craft beers.
