Dublin team bus in fire station fiasco

-

WHILE the Dublin footballers tactics didn’t seem to pay off on the pitch as they went down 1-12 to 0-14 to Wexford on Sunday in what was a major shock, off the pitch parking the bus definitely didn’t work as the team’s driver fell foul of Enniscorthy Fire Service.

The bus carrying the Dublin team, having been unable to fit through to St Patrick’s Park, was left abandoned right in the way at Enniscorthy Fire Station. While parking was at a premium ahead of the game, local fire-fighters were left disgusted by the blatant disregard shown by the Dublin team driver and one of them took to Facebook to vent his anger.

Fire-fighter Danny Dunbar said: ‘I went over to the fire-station to do a few bits and it was parked right in the way. I parked my car in front of the bus to block him in.

‘ The bus driver came into the station 15 minutes later and asked me to move my car. I asked him for his fire-fighter ID and he told me he didn’t have one. (...) This bus driver had no problem putting lives at risk today, all down to him being too lazy to find somewhere else to park.’

The incident, which was shared all over social media, exacerbated the feelings that the All-Ireland Champions showed major arrogance on their trip to Slaneyside, with interim manager Paul Clarke commenting ahead of the game that if Wexford could ‘ keep us to 15 or 16 points they would see it as a moral victory’.

While it was a great day for Wexford football, the Dublin team bus wasn’t the only vehicle that caused problems with parking and residents of Pearse Road in particular were left at their wits end as cars being driven by both travelling Wexford and Dublin fans were blatantly abandoned on double yellow lines, causing traffic chaos with some people reporting that it took upwards of 30 minutes just to get up the road to their homes.
