North End fight back to draw with Moyne
Champions North End United fought back from a 3-1 deficit to earn a share of the spoils against fierce rivals Moyne Rangers in an exciting Premier Division contest on Sunday.
The Sky Blues got off to the best possible start, with Paul ‘Spot’ Murphy firing them in front inside the opening minute, and the North End dangerman had an opportunity to double their tally in the fifth minute when he raced clear, but his shot drifted narrowly wide.
Last season’s runners-up took full advantage of the let-off as they went in 2-1 ahead at half-time and extended their advantage shortly after the interval, with Seán Kenny and James Peare (two) getting their goals.
However, substitute Paul Murphy (Kilmore) gave the visitors hope with a fine overhead effort, and Dale Flynn rescued a point with a couple of minutes remaining when he fired in from the edge of the area.
Bunclody continued their impressive form with a 2-1 win over New Ross Celtic. Timmy Halpin netted both goals for the winners, with Alan Rhodes replying from the penalty spot.
Bridge Rovers picked up a big three points in their battle for survival as they won 3-1 away to Gorey Celtic, with goals from Jody Hynes and Kevin Murphy (two), while Craig Travers scored for the hosts.
Division 1
St. Leonards have a threepoint advantage at the top of Division 1 after chalking up a 3-1 away win over North End United on Sunday. The prolific Seán ‘Mini’ Ryan scored twice for the pacesetters, with Donal Kiely getting in on the act and Jordan Jarrett replying for the hosts.
Ferns United continued their recent resurgence as a John Breen double helped them to a 2-1 win over Shelburne, with Brian Lynch hitting the back of the net for the home side.
Wexford Bohs, who have plenty of games in hand, could yet mount a challenge for honours and they had too much for Curracloe United, winning 4-1 thanks to a double from Dermot Flood and goals from Jay Swords and Roy Doyle.
Division 2
Division 2 leaders Cloughbawn had to be content with a share of the spoils on Sunday as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Killenagh Wanderers.
Barry Carton and Páidí Cullen hit the back of the net for the pacesetters, who also missed a penalty with 20 minutes remaining, with Martin Flynn netting both goals for Wanderers.
A John Dunleavy goal was enough for Adamstown to edge out Stoney Rovers, while David Berney and Peter Culleton got the goals for Crossabeg as they saw off Wexford Celtic 2-0.
Division 3
Dylan Fleming was the match-winner for Gorey Rangers, scoring the only goal of the game against Forth Celtic as they moved to within five points of Division 3 leaders Enniscorthy United.
There were plenty more goals on show in the other game in the division, with Shamrock Rovers and Duncannon playing out a 4-4 draw.
Ryan Heimsoth netted two penalties for the Enniscorthy outfit, with Robert Moorehouse and Mark Redmond getting their other goals, and Aaron O’Brien, Michael O’Grady, Jack O’Brien and Alex Clarke replying for the seasiders. Division 3A
Rathnure moved into second place in Division 3A, just a point behind leaders Wexford Albion, after overcoming Oylegate United 2-1 on Sunday.
Brian Lawlor and Anthony Westnott scored for the winners, with Barry Dunne replying from the penalty spot for Oylegate. Division 4
Crossabeg collected the points against Caim United on Sunday, with goals from Conor Keeling (two) and Davy Fenlon earning them a 3-1 win.
Tommy Storey netted a double for The Ballagh as they edged out Curracloe United 3-2, with Ian Storey adding their other goal.
Camolin beat Castledockrell by the same scoreline, with Conor Mulholland (two) and Daryl Murphy hitting the back of the net for the winners. Division 4A
Division 4A leaders Glynn Barntown continued their incredible scoring feats with an emphatic 11-2 triumph over Taghmon United on Sunday.
Robert Dempsey and Shane Wilde both helped themselves to hat-tricks, Ríwoghan Crosbie added a double, with Colin Stafford, John Lacey and Barry Doyle also getting in on the act. Darren Carty bagged both goals for Taghmon.
Paul Lambert and Stephen Kennedy got the goals for Cloughbawn as they beat Ballymurn 2-0, while St. Joseph’s saw off Wexford Celtic 3-2, with goals from Billy Dunne (two) and Kevin McCreary.
Division 5
Camolin Celtic chalked up a 7-3 win over local rivals Ferns United on Sunday, with Thomas Furlong (two), James Casey, Keith Crosbie, Peter McSweeney, Paul Carton and Conor Mulholland scoring for the winners. Ferns replied through a Florin Bora double and a goal from Daniel Colibaba.
Mark Walsh (two), Dean Fortune and Liam Walsh got the goals for St. Cormac’s as they beat Stoney Rovers 4-2, while Bree United overwhelmed Cushinstown 7-1, with Peter Kelly contributing a hat-trick and Dean Doyle, Shane Jordan, Darragh Byrne and Mark Butler grabbing a goal apiece.
