Greyhound racing report

THE 2018 greyhound racing season got under way on Friday night, but it was Saturday night that saw Co. Wexford runners score victories.

It was a good night in Waterford for Enniscorthy owner James Flynn as he recorded a nice double, starting when his Rathbally Ace made all the running in race three, an A6, for a seven-length win in 29.90.

The double was achieved when, in race nine, an A4, Rathbally Titan made light of his August 2013 age when he got the better of a good battle with Rastafari Tine and Martha Waits, who did not help herself by running wide off the last bend, to score in 29.53 for a delighted owner.

Barntown trainer Nick Turner was on the mark in race five after a great battle to the line between his Coco Jet and fellow local runner Tomahurra Rock who had led.

Coco looked to have this A5 in the bag when going past and opening up a nice lead between the third and fourth bends, but Tommahurra was coming on again on the inside but failed by a head to get back up.

The winning time was 29.78. Coco in owned by Mary Flynn, Gracedieu, Co. Waterford.

The Garry Murphy (Wexford town)-owned Glenbrook View got back to winning ways in race eight, an A3, when he broke well from trap two.

Although led early by Annacurra Sam, Glenbrook went on off the second bend and ran on well to hold Glenbervie Anne in a time of 29.03. The winner is trained by Eamonn Moore from Barntown.

Gorey trainer Tracy Fitzpatrick had a good night up in Shelbourne Park when her Alien Avatare, jointly owned with Laurence Byrne (Gorey), put in a nice run in race four, an A2, recording her fourth race win.

Avatare broke well and went to the lead down the back before she ran on strongly to hold Fane Hye Bhoy in a time of 29.11. She was a dwindling half a length shy of completing a double when Alien Tears came home strongly in race nine, the 550.

Enniscorthy is open for unofficial trials next Wednesday, January 10, with racing due to return on January 29.
