Rugby men put bodies on line in charity cycle
NEW Ross Rugby Club members are putting their bodies on the line once more to raise money for the club, a defrillator and also for charity, by cycling 168km to Kinsale this April.
Organised by club members Mick Bailey, Fergus Kent, David Brennan, Paul Rossiter, Ger Monaghan, Shane Roche, Ger O’Donovan and Maurice Quirke, the cycle involves 26 club members taking to the roads on April 28, travelling 168km to County Cork in one day.
The cyclists will be leaving New Ross RFC, travelling to Waterford City from where they will connect with the Greenway and on to Youghal, through Cork City before hitting the Kinsale road and arriving at the town’s rugby club where the New Ross RFC cyclists will be welcomed.
The idea for the cycle came from Campile man Fergus Kent through a conversation with a friend involved with Kinsale RFC around having a twinning connection with the club.
A decision was made to present a New Ross club jersey to Kinsale RFC and to make some money for a defibrillator for Irishtown, potentially, along with money for Aoibheann’s Pink Tie cancer charity.
Money will be raised through sponsorship cards over coming weeks.
The cyclists will be joined by a support team and will be given great support as they travel to Kinsale.
